Create this wall hanging or alternatively it can be used in a larger project or as a cushion front.

 

This wall hanging incorporates reverse appliqué, layering and embellishing, working with circles and free motion quilting. (The porthole is embellished with buttons). The finished piece will be approximately 20 inches square.

‘Christmas Patchwork’

Julia is a nationally recognized quilter who hosts her own Facebook page ‘Julia’s Mini Quilts’. She regularly enters miniature quilts in Quilt Shows around the country. Join Julia to create a series of Christmas themed projects from mini quilts, angels and garlands.

 

These projects are excellent for using up your scraps and Christmas themed prints. Over the course of the day you should be able to produce several small projects.

‘Kantha Cow Parsley with a printed border’

Angela is a world renowned expert on Kantha Stitching. She will be giving a talk on “Kantha 500 years in Stitch” at the A.G.M. on Saturday. This workshop follows on from the talk.

This workshop is a hand stitched project with an Indian block printed border. Angela will teach you how to mask out an area of fabric & pick up techniques for successful block painting. She will support you to create a successful printed border, before learning how to transfer the cow parsley design. You will learn how to layer up your work and then how to start your stitching. Angela will show you how to use different types of running stitch to make your stitching come alive.

General Instructions for Norfolk Quilters Workshops

Booking workshops:

  1. Book early to avoid disappointment.
  2. Check availability for workshops by contacting Sandra Balaam (nq.workshops@gmail.com).
  3. Apply for a workshop in writing to Rebecca (letter or email) giving your name, address, phone number and email address. There is a booking form on the Norfolk Quilters website which you can print out and complete if you prefer.
  4. Pay promptly in full, preferably with your application. Cheques payable to Norfolk Quilters. Your booking is not secured until payment is received.
  5. We prefer to email you the workshop requirement list as soon as we receive it from the tutor, however if you would like it in the post you must enclose a SAE for each workshop you are booking, with your application.
  6. Non-members are welcome to attend one workshop, after which they will have to belong to Norfolk Quilters to attend.

In recognition of all the hard work that committee members do, they are given priority for two workshops a year of their choice (they do pay for them of course!).  After that they apply for workshops like any other member.

On the day:

  • Workshops take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and start promptly at 10 a.m.
  • It is important to arrive earlier, but not before 9.30 a.m.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day but please take your own packed lunch and your own mug.
  • We have decided it is no longer practical for Norfolk Quilters to provide irons, ironing boards and extension leads for workshops. Workshops are held in different halls around the county and committee members do not have the storage facilities or time to transport these items.

You will be asked to bring your own iron, ironing mat / small board and extension lead if needed for a workshop and they will be included on the requirement list.  Please make sure all electrical items are PAT tested.

Cancellation Policy:  If Norfolk Quilters has to cancel the workshop for any reason your payment will be refunded in full.  If you cancel four weeks, or more, before the workshop date you will receive a full refund, minus 10% administration fee, although this can only be guaranteed if the place is filled.  If you cancel less than four weeks beforehand you will NOT receive a refund.  This will apply other than in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Committee.
