The Christmas Get Together Day is always the most fun in the Norfolk Quilters’ calendar.
This year we all met at St Peter’s Church Hall, Jessop Road, Norwich. We arrived to a warm welcome and free entry, a very pleasant early Christmas present. The tables looked very festive with cloths and flower arrangements and it was a delight to sit and chat with friends, plus sew and have a mince pie or two.
Once her voice was audible above the hub-bub Linda Turner greeted us all in her capacity as the new Chair and told us a little bit about the thoughts and plans of the committee for the next year. As usual ‘Show and Tell’ was brilliant and it’s my favourite bit of any of the Get Together Days. It’s a wonderful way to showcase the huge diversity of talent that is made up by the members of NQ.
The afternoon consisted of a talk from Ros Peedle on the beauty and satisfaction of the Japanese traditions of Sashiko and Kuno. This was most enlightening and as many members had worked Sashiko techniques they were also able to pass on their experiences. After the talk the tables were cleared to play a Christmas game, organized by Linda, with great hilarity all around. Before we knew it twilight was falling and it was time to pack up and go home. It had been a good day and we all left with a measure of Christmas warmth to get us all prepared for the real thing.
